How to make your windows energy efficient?

We often think about replacing those drafty and worn-out windows in our house with better ones. Owing to modern innovations, energy efficient glass doors and windows are available in the market that keep indoors comfortable by maintaining a pleasant temperature. In many cases, the cooling and heating costs are floating right out of the window, we being completely unaware of it.

soundproof windows

So, if you are planning to install new energy efficient glass windows in your house, there are two things you should look for—cost and energy efficiency! Besides these two, here are some important steps you should take.

Upgrade the window frame

Besides knowing what type of windows you are going to install, make sure that you install energy efficient window frames for better insulation. uPVC frames are globally acclaimed for being energy efficient, highly durable and weather resistant.

Install double glazing

It is a good idea to install two layers of glass in your windows that are separated by an inert gas. This is particularly good for winters as it keeps the cold air out. Also, it eliminates excess noise coming from outside and reduces indoor conduction to a good amount.

Seal the gaps

Old window panes are usually not rightly sealed. Many install soundproof windows in order to block noise from outside elements. However, if the gaps around the frame are not rightly sealed, they will be useless. If you do not have the budget to replace the window frames entirely, you can find those gaps and seal them again. This will make your windows energy efficient as well. Here, the problem is that it is difficult to find those loopholes, which is why one should conduct a visual inspection first. Once you find the leaks, use weather stripping or a caulking to cover those leaks. This is the most cost-effective method to make your windows safe and energy efficient.

Installing energy film

No matter what type of glass installment you have in your window pane, it is a good idea to install energy film in your windows to make them energy efficient. A layer of energy film reduces the effects of conduction and makes home windows much safer overall. Also, they block those notorious infrared and ultraviolet rays in the hot summer days.

Investing in upgraded window coverings

Window coverings do not make your windows or house more energy efficient but they certainly help in blocking the drafts. We suggest you choose heavy or thermal curtains as they help in maintaining the room temperature.
