Add Years to your uPVC Windows With Amazing Maintenance Hacks

As important as it is to choose only the highest quality uPVC windows for your house, it is also equally necessary to keep them spick and span to keep your house looking well-maintained. uPVC doors and windows are fairly easy to maintain since they do not require weather-proofing, and you do not have to get them re-painted either. Regular cleaning and a few basic maintenance hacks are the only things you need to ensure that your windows function smoothly and look neat.

When it comes to maintenance, the working parts of your windows need a little care so that all the parts move effortlessly. To begin with, close the windows and spray some oil onto the window key. Insert it into the handle lock and move it around a little to lubricate all the parts. Next, open the windows and spray some oil onto the locking strip. Make sure to wipe away any excess oil with some kitchen roll. Put some oil on the friction hinges as well, but if they feel loose, then a tightening screw can be used to re-tighten the hinge.

Another significant part of maintaining your windows is cleaning them regularly. The frames and the glass have to be dealt with separately as both need different care. The frames should ideally be cleaned at least twice a year. You can start with an old brush and use it to remove any dust, cobwebs and grime. Then you can use a vacuum cleaner to blow away any remnants. You can then use a cloth soaked with a PVC cleaner or a solution of washing liquid and warm water to wipe the frames. Do not use a harsh chemical cleaner or an abrasive cloth for the same, to prevent damage. Do not use the PVC cleaner on silicone seals either. Pay special attention to the edges where the dirt and debris tend to accumulate.

The glass, on the other hand, requires more regular care- four to eight times a year. Do not clean your windows under direct sunlight to avoid streaky finishes. Start the process by rubbing the glass with a damp cloth to take off the excess dirt. You can choose to clean your glass with traditional cleaners or with special products such as e-cloths. If you are using a traditional home-made glass cleaner, make sure that you use a good quality, non-smear one. Later, use a microfiber cloth to polish the glass. E-cloths come in packs of two, one to clean and the other to dry, and using them is very simple.

These were a few easy hacks to help you keep your windows spotless and shiny, with minimal effort. They will help you not only in making an impression on visitors, but will also let you bask in the satisfaction of a scrupulously maintained house.
